the failure of Yash Raj Films and the high-profile fame of Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi and Samrat Prithviraj (SP) who ended up empty-handed left producer Aditya Chopra angry and furious.
The first question you ask is, where did all the budget money in the amount of R230 crores go? Not much of it is visible on the screen. The special effects are very delicate and the film concept associated with it seems to be lost in translation.
This is Aditya Chopra’s second hit following Jayeshbhai Jordaar (JJ) starring Yash Raj’s blue-eyed boy Ranveer Singh. And Chopra is not laughing.In both cases the SP and JJ failures have been in amazing proportions. JJ’s games had to be canceled due to non-availability. And now with Prithviraj, history repeats itself, though not in a positive way.
Filled with a spirit of sadness and anger at Yash Raj. The burden of SP failure has been placed on the shoulders of leading man Akshay Kumar.
“He did not listen,” a source said. “The film needed a lot of focus. He would not even grow a real mustache, as he did another project at the same time. When he plays the most important man in history, why would he not do the same job and do his best at it? ”
The filmmakers blamed Akshay Kumar for the failure of the SP.
Akshay could have taken a page from his father-in-law Rajesh Khanna who had to grow Yash Chopra’s Itefaq beard in 1969 at his height. Khanna grew a beard and allowed the process for the continuation of other films, especially Raj Khosla’s Do Raaste, to suffer. In Do Raaste the beard kept coming and going.
I had asked Rajesh Khanna about this and his answer was short but obvious. “Continuing violence in Do Raaste. But I was committed to playing a real beard at Itefaq. The counterfeit would look umbulu fake. ”
Ittefaq’s beard was part of Khana’s contract. Mustaches in SP should have been the same.
Suman Sinha, an angry filmmaker in Bihar, is outraged by Akshay’s false mustache. “Does Mr Akshay Kumar see what the mustache means to Rajput’s pride? It is the origin of the Rajput identity. You can’t play mustache. ”
Mustaches are not all that bad with SP. The whole project seems to suffer from a lack of certainty. The film was originally directed by director Dwivedi with Sunny Deol and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starring Prithviraj and Samyukta. When Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films decided to produce a film, Akshay Kumar stepped into the picture.
Alas, some is not history. This statue of Prithviraj Chauhan is counted as one of the worst screen scenes of the famous Rajpur hero. It is inferior to the 1959 version of Prithviraj’s role that starred Jairaj in the title role.
After both Bachchan Pandey and SP fame, Akshay Kumar is looking forward to his next project Ram Setu carefully. He should have done that early.
