World Music Day 2022: Theme, Significance Of The Day

World Music Day 2022 Music has never been more accessible than in today’s world. Just by tapping on our smartphones, we can open our favorite songs by selecting the genres and artists we like to listen to. And, that is why World Music Day is so important for the current generation.

World Music Day is celebrated on June 21. This day celebrates the spirit of music, voice movement and instrumental music. The day was first celebrated as Fete de la Musique in France in 1982. It was edited by the then French Minister of Arts and Culture, Jack Lange, and by French composer Maurice Fleuret.

The theme for World Music Day 2022 is “Music at Crossroads”.

Significance

World Music Day was started to make music relevant and consumed in the new generation. Back in 1982, Jack Lange and Maurice Fleuret noted that music at the time was not suitable for young musicians. So, they planned to organize a concert in the public square of Paris with the help of architect Christian Dupavillon. The concert took place on June 21 of that year and celebrated the presence of both professional and student artists from different parts of France.

In 1985, also known as the European Music Year, other nations hosted this annual concert celebrating musicians and musicians. In 1997, a charter was signed at the European Music Festival in Budapest, which recognized the day as a World Music Day.

How can you celebrate World Music Day?

Music artists around the world are organizing concerts on World Music Day. Celebrations are no longer limited to European countries. In fact, the day was marked by 120 countries, including India, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, United States, UK, Japan , China and Malaysia. Feasts, parades, shows, festivals and dance parties are often part of World Music Day.
